Economic Empowerment  |  World Poverty Eradication Day
October 17, 2019  ·  Gombe State, Nigeria

We didn't run a poverty awareness event.
We ran a skills workshop — and one participant came home and taught her mother and sister to freelance too.

The Ripple Effect

One Workshop. Three Women. A Chain Reaction.

One of our participants left the workshop and secured a freelancing contract with a company collecting data on local language trends for AI model training. She coordinated over 100 individuals across communities to complete the project. Then she went home — and taught her mother and her sister to do the same. Within months, three women in one household had gone from zero income to independently contracting with companies. That is what ripple impact looks like.

She didn't just learn a skill. She became the teacher.

The Workshop

What we did — and what it produced

~50 participants trained in freelancing account setup, client acquisition, and remote work fundamentals — walking in with no prior knowledge of the gig economy and leaving with actionable skills.

Multiple participants secured paying clients in the weeks following the workshop — turning a single afternoon of instruction into sustained income. The model: learn, apply, earn.

One participant's ripple effect reached 100+ people through a language data collection project — and transformed income for her entire household. Three women. One family. All now earning.

In one household — because of one workshop day
The ripple effect of one skill transferred to one person can reach an entire household — and beyond.

Nudge Initiative believes in skills over awareness. We run workshops that produce income, not just inspiration. The World Poverty Eradication Day workshop was proof of concept: that a focused, practical afternoon — not a conference, not a panel, not an awareness campaign — is what moves people from zero to earning.
